Dear patients and families of Idaho Falls Pediatrics,
As a pediatric medical practice, our whole focus is on the health and welfare of the children in this community.
As such, we absolutely recommend following the current immunization schedule as published by the ACIP and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
There is just too much real data available to practice otherwise. The benefits of these recommendations clearly outweigh the risks.
There are some, because of age, disease or other circumstance that are unable to follow the guidelines and have to look to the rest of the community to do the right thing to be able to keep them safe. This group represents a very small, but very important percentage of the population.
Some pediatric and family practices throughout the country have elected to not have intentionally un-immunized or under immunized children come to their offices as this group increases the risks to the other “at risk” children that come to their locations.
In times of low disease prevalence, or in areas where there are no known outbreaks, Idaho Falls Pediatrics and other practices have elected to allow those families to continue to come and receive care, with the hope that we will be able to not only care for these children, but to be also able to help and educate the more vaccine hesitant families be able to more effectively protect their children. We feel that thus far, our efforts on this have had some success.
However, with recent events and resurgence in illnesses that have been thought to have been almost eliminated, measles for example, we feel that if or when there is an outbreak of a particular disease (such as measles), it would not be safe, fair, or responsible to our “at risk” children, for us to allow intentionally un-immunized or under immunized children to come to our offices until deemed safe in the area again by Public Health Department.
We wish these measures were never necessary, and there is a possibility that they will not be if these diseases do not make a resurgence into our community.
We appreciate the trust you have placed in us in helping to care for your children and will strive to continue to do our best to provide the best care for them that is possible.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance in our efforts to work with you to keep your children safe, healthy and happy.
